Be glad in the Lord – Philippians 3

Be glad and pleased that you know the Lord. Think delightful thoughts of the Lord when you awaken and throughout your day; see how that changes your outlook. When you are least encouraged, try encouraging others. Phil 3:1 Whatever happens, dear friends, be glad in the Lord. I never get tired of telling you this, and it is good for you to hear it again and again.

Remember that you don't have exclusive rights to misery. Life may be hard on your court right now, but praise the Lord and things change. Share God's love again and again. You never know when someone needs encouragement.

It’s all about worshiping with our spirits. Ignore the trappings and entanglements of established churchianity. Phil 3:2 Watch out for those wicked men—dangerous dogs, I call them—who say you must be circumcised to be saved. 3 For it isn't the cutting of our bodies that makes us children of God; it is worshiping him with our spirits.

Trust and hope in the Lord alone. Phil 3:7 But all these things that I once thought very worthwhile—now I’ve thrown them all away so that I can put my trust and hope in Christ alone.

Don’t worry about being good enough. Your faith counts with God. Phil 3:8 I have put aside all else, counting it worth less than nothing, in order that I can have Christ, 9 and become one with him, no longer counting on being saved by being good enough or by obeying God’s laws, but by trusting Christ to save me; for God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith—counting on Christ alone.

Challenge yourself to be the person God made you to be. Phil 3:12 I don’t mean to say I am perfect. I haven’t learned all I should even yet, but I keep working toward that day when I will finally be all that Christ saved me for and wants me to be.

Forget the past. It happened. Learn. Move on. Phil 3:13 No, dear brothers, I am still not all I should be, but I am bringing all my energies to bear on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,

Live your life. Go the distance on purpose. Go for God. Phil 3:14 I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God is calling us up to heaven because of what Christ Jesus did for us.

in your house, LORD God,

14 They will be like trees
that stay healthy and fruitful,
    even when they are old.
15 And they will say about you,
“The LORD always does right! God is our mighty rock.”

Sin on the journey

Before I know it, sin drips from my mouth and floods my mind. Oh the struggle.
Romans 7:22-23 I love to do God’s will so far as my new nature is concerned; but there is something else deep within me, in my lower nature, that is at war with my mind and wins the fight and makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. In my mind I want to be God’s willing servant, but instead I find myself still enslaved to sin. So you see how it is: my new life tells me to do right, but the old nature that is still inside me loves to sin. Oh, what a terrible predicament I’m in! Who will free me from my slavery to this deadly lower nature? Thank God! It has been done by Jesus Christ our Lord. He has set me free.
My current struggle is in not easily recognizing the extent of my sinfulness. I can easily preach it, but continuous righteous living eludes me.
Ouch. It hurts. I reveal this because I love the Lord with all my heart, mind and soul, but the sinner in me wins. It's the same struggle the A…
