Use the gift or lose it

1 Peter 4:10 Use whatever gift you’ve received for the good of one another so that you can show yourselves to be good stewards of God’s grace in all its varieties.
Don't be a one-person show! Spiritual gifts are given by the Holy Spirit for our use for the benefit of others.
It's also up to us to keep the gifts relevant.
2 Timothy 1:6 You received a gift from God when I placed my hands on you to ordain you. Now I’m reminding you to fan that gift into flames.
Fan your own flame! Find out what God planned for you! Remember that you only get to use the gifts while you live!
You can't take them with you.

When discipline brings discomfort

My Bible study notes from Table Talk Magazine.
“Month by month, Tabletalk represents an oasis in a desert of false spirituality, mindless Christianity, and vapid conviction. Tabletalk represents theological rigor, biblical Christianity, and authentic Christian devotion. It is an antidote to the world of superficial Christianity. Read it and grow.” — R. Albert Mohler, Jr.

Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
The ancient shepherds of the Bible used rods to prod and poke sheep.  Such actions could be painful for the animal, but it kept them safe.

Maybe you need to get back in line? Have you slipped into a secret sin? How is your mouth? What about your thoughts?
Discern whether God is poking or prodding you to …

Have a plan before you are tempted!

How to deal with temptation (my notes from a sermon) Jesus didn't get into arguments with the devil. If you do that you have lost. ~ Dr. Charles Stanley
Immediately go into the word of God.
Have a plan to protect yourself. It's not a coincidence that Jesus was approached by satan after having the awesome experience of being baptized.
We are susceptible to having a fall after having a great spiritual revelation.
Matthew 3:16-17When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
Immediately we learn that evil appeared to the Son of God who had just had the spiritual experience that kicked off his ministry!
Matthew 4:1-2 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty night…
