When discipline brings discomfort

My Bible study notes from Table Talk Magazine.
“Month by month, Tabletalk represents an oasis in a desert of false spirituality, mindless Christianity, and vapid conviction. Tabletalk represents theological rigor, biblical Christianity, and authentic Christian devotion. It is an antidote to the world of superficial Christianity. Read it and grow.” — R. Albert Mohler, Jr.

Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

The ancient shepherds of the Bible used rods to prod and poke sheep.  Such actions could be painful for the animal, but it kept them safe.

Much the same way, God's discipline can be uncomfortable and very painful. Don't hesitate to evaluate situations that bring difficulties to your life.

Maybe you need to get back in line? Have you slipped into a secret sin? How is your mouth? What about your thoughts?

Discern whether God is poking or prodding you to make changes.

Then repent, confess and remember that God is mindful of what you need. He knows you.
